Nature Mosaics

1) Take a walk outside

(Garden, park, playground, open space).

Note down the colours you see.

Sketch, take a picture, or keep in mind the shapes you can see (leaves, acorns, flowers, pinecones).

2) Place small blobs of paint, of the colours that you noted, on a plain piece of paper.

If you do not have the colours you need, mix colours together to make a new colour.

Different shades of a colour can be created by adding more or less of a specific colour.

For example:

Blue + Yellow = Green

More Yellow = Lighter Green

More Blue = Drker Green

3) Dip your finger into one of the colours and dab it across the page.

Dip your finger into another colour and dab again.

Repeat this with all the colours until you can no longer see the plain paper.

4) Leave to dry.

5) Sketch out one of the shapes you noticed from outside - or use one of the templates attached.

If you want the design to be on a coloured background, cut the shape out and draw around it lightly with a pencil onto your chosen background.

6) Cut up your finger painted paper into small pieces (these will be used as mosaic tiles to fill your design).

7) Apply glue to your design and use your finger painted tiles to fill your design (I'm using PVA, but Prit stick or other form of glue work well too).

You Will Need:

  • Paper

  • Paint

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Coloured Paper (optional)

  • Pencil

Antoni Gaudi

SUN.png

Gaudi was a Mosaic artist and architect from Spain.

Architect = a person who designs buildings.

Most of his work can be found in Barcelona, or close by in Spain.

The artist was hugely inspired by Nature, this if featured heavily throughout his artwork.

One of his biggest projects  - La Sagrada Familia (a big cathedral in Barcelona) - was designed with columns leading up to the ceiling to represent a forest. The colors used on the ceiling; blue, green and gold, were also inspired by the forest scene.
