Mosaic Coasters

You Will Need

  • Pumpkin seeds

  • Paint

  • Modeling Clay or Cardboard

  • Scrap paper

  • pencil

  • PVA Glue (if using cardboard)

1) Think of a design you want to create

- This can be your own or one of the designs and patterns on this page.

2) Layout some pumpkin seeds on a piece of scrap paper and paint them the colours you'll need for your design. 

 

3) Leave the seeds until they are completely dry.

4) Fold the corner of a piece of scrap paper. Draw along the edges that are folded in. Unfold the paper so that the paper is flat again. You will be left with a square in the corner.

Cut out the square. 

- This will be used as a template.

If you are using cardboard, continue with the BLUE instructions

5) Get out your modeling clay and roll it out so that it has a smooth surface.

Roll it so that it is about the thickness of a £1 coin.

6) Place your paper square lightly on top of the clay and cut around it to create a clay tile. 

5) Find some cardboard - this could be from some used food packaging or an old shoebox.

6) Place your paper square on top of the cardboard and trace around it.

once you have traced the outline, cut it out to create a cardboard tile.

7) Start to push the pumpkin seeds into the modeling clay to form your pattern/design.

7) cover the cardboard with PVA Glue and press the pumpkin seeds onto the cardboard to form your pattern/design.

8) Leave to air dry for 1-2 days until it is hard.

8) Leave the tile to dry.
